Website Analytics

Tools and metrics for measuring how visitors use your website.

Website analytics is the collection, measurement, and analysis of website data to understand visitor behaviour and improve performance. For AEC firms, analytics provides the evidence needed to understand which services attract the most interest, which projects generate enquiries, and where prospective clients drop off before making contact.

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the most widely used analytics platform and is free. Privacy-focused alternatives like Plausible and Fathom are increasingly popular for firms that prefer not to share visitor data with Google. All provide the core metrics AEC firms need.

Key metrics for AEC firms include: sessions and page views by page (which projects are most viewed), average engagement time (are visitors reading descriptions or bouncing?), traffic source (are clients finding you via search, social, or direct links?), and conversion events (contact form submissions, phone clicks, email clicks).

Without analytics, it is impossible to measure the return on investment of any digital marketing activity. Firms investing in content, SEO, or paid advertising without analytics are unable to determine what is working. Installing GA4 or an equivalent should be the first digital marketing step for any AEC firm that has not already done so.
